Test before you filter
Test the water before you buy a filter. Otherwise you are guessing which cartridge to trust and which problem you still have.

Why order matters
A carbon pitcher will not fix every metal. A softener will not remove bacteria. Reverse osmosis has maintenance and waste-water tradeoffs. A certified result tells you what is present at levels that matter for your decision.
A simple sequence
- Write the question (taste, infant formula, well after flooding, remodel with old solder, PFAS news nearby).
- Find a certified lab for those analytes.
- Sample the way the lab specifies.
- Then choose treatment — or none — with the report in hand.
